Why did you take up sailing?

I always thought sailing was all about cruising on a big boat and soaking up the sun after going out on a keelboat owned by my Uncle. I took up the basic sailing course at SAF Yacht Club expecting to be on a big boat. Instead, they got me started on an Optimist.

Optimist

4 to 6 days

Why did you take up (your current class of boat)?

I’ve always loved big boat racing and especially match racing format.

Kiel, Germany

SAFYC Regatta

What is the single most important piece of sailing advice you could give to a young sailor?

Learning never stops. There’s always something or someone to learn from. Even when you are the best around.

What would you be doing if you were not sailing?

Some other sports maybe. Or go into business.

Aspirations in sailing:

To win a gold medal at the Asian Games and a medal at the Olympics. And added to the list recently, be the best match racer in the world.
