Aunty Serena with Andrew Sanders |
Hello all,
We have had a great few days here in Doha.
We have had a range of winds from quite strong to very light.
It is nice to get the variety and even to get variety in the temperature and climate conditions. Sometimes beautiful sunshine and sometimes rain.
We were all very happy top see our keel boat and optimist colleagues yesterday and they wasted no time hitting the water.
After hours we have been enjoying the recreation facilities at the Athlete Village.
Aunty Serena has shown her table tennis skills. Blinding us all with various kinds of freaky spin shots. Little did we know she captained her school table tennis team that were the national school champions.
Yesterday as the wind lightened off the Laser and Hobie Sailors decided to have a picnic whilst training and made their way to a small offshore sand island.
With the use of a flag and flag pole Seng Leong boldly named the small island Seng-apore.
Also our Laser sparring partner Matias del Solar who is one of the worlds best Laser sailors (ranked number 5 in the world) had his birthday. We visited the local Italian restaurant to celebrate and the hosts were very gracious in catering for 30+ noisy Singaporeans.
Jun Hao has headed off to join the Asian Games Youth Camp now and our other sparring partners making their way home. The team all joined together to thank the great contribution from Manyi, Cameron, Suzzie, Matias and Jun Hao.
Today the Prime Minister visited the Athlete Village and although the sailors were out training he spoke to Serena and I with interest on the development of the sailing program.
We are all now getting excited about the Opening Ceremony. Some of us have seen the main stadium from outside and it looks like it is going to be spectacular.
Thank you all for your support.
I will update you soon.
Cheers
Andrew J Sanders
