US President John F Kennedy proposed in 1961, "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the earth". In 1969, the Apollo 11 mission fulfilled John F Kennedy’s goal of reaching the moon.
At SingaporeSailing, short of trying to land on the moon, we have been aiming to, instead, reach for the stars. The challenge from Senior Minster Goh Chok Tong in 1998 to the sailing fraternity to win an Olympic medal for Singapore has created the blueprint for SingaporeSailing’s unwavering motivation for success.
Through the last decade, we have sailed through uncharted waters together and reached new heights of success. From here, we are now poised for a new wave of development. Building on our strengths, we aspire to bring sailing to the entire Singapore community and step up to the Olympic stage. This second cycle will incorporate a strong team alliance with all stakeholders involved.
Together, let’s take that leap to discover the realms of possibilities for sailing in Singapore and to place ourselves on the world stage.
