Olympic sailor Koh Seng Leong did not compete in the recently concluded Delta Lloyd Holland Regatta due to recurring back soreness.
24-year old Seng Leong experienced a sore back before the start of the competition. Dr Peter Logan, SingaporeSailing’s Olympic Team Manager, and Brett Beyer, Olympic Laser Coach, took immediate precautionary action and withdrew Seng Leong from competing to prevent any further aggravation.
Seng Leong has been in consultation with Singapore Sports Council’s Sports Medicine personnel, Sports Doctor Dr Cormac O’Muircheartaigh and Physiotherapist Kelvin Wong, and is receiving treatment.
“Seng Leong’s back soreness is not a new condition. We have been successfully treating the symptoms for many years. We are confident we will soon get him back to a 100% race-ready condition. Seng Leong will undertake relative rest whilst maintaing his fitness and strength for a week before he resumes his training,” said Dr Cormac O’Muircheartaigh.
Emphasis is currently on getting Seng Leong to a peak performance condition before the Olympic Games. As such, his programme will be going in taper mode in the next two months.
