29er sailors Justin LIU and Sherman CHENG wrapped up the Kieler Woche regatta (Kiel Week) in second position out of 93 boats. They were tied for first place on 16 points but were second on count back to French sailors Kevin Fischer and Glenn Gouron. The girls’ pair, Griselda KHNG and Cecilia LOW, finished in a credible 16th place overall in Gold fleet and fourth in the girls’ division.
Multihull sailors LOW Wen Chun and Jonathan Russel CHEW were one point off a podium position and placed 4th overall out of 37 boats in the Hobie 16 class. They concluded the regatta with first and second scores on the final day, finishing behind the podium winners who are at least 20 years their senior.
“The 2008 Youth Worlds sailors have put on an excellent performance at Kiel Week. This shows that our sailors are peaking at the right time, and we are looking to reproduce some of Singapore’s top class performances at next month’s Youth World Championships,” said SingaporeSailing’s CEO Andrew SANDERS.
These six sailors, who form part of the team representing Singapore at the 38th Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship, will be making their next stop in Århus, Denmark for the prestigious youth championship held from 10-19 July 2008.
