2008 IODA Optimist North American Championships
Singapore’s Rachel LEE Qing (李 清), 14, scored equal points with Raul RIOS from Puerto Rico at the recently concluded IODA Optimist North American Championships. Raul won the regatta on count back with Rachel in second position overall. Also in top ten positions are Rachel's fellow team mates, Russell KAN (简 忠 良), 15, in fourth position overall with 21 points and Luke TAN (陈 逸 好), 15, in sixth place with 43 points. Darren CHOY (蔡 旺龙), 14, completed the regatta with 97 points in 20th position overall. A total number of 204 competitors from 25 countries competed at the regatta which took place in Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles. In addition to the North American countries, there was also a strong contingent of teams from South America, with Singapore, the only invited non-American country. Sixteen teams participated in the team racing event with Puerto Rico winning the Team Racing title, followed by host country Netherland Antilles in second and Singapore in third positions. Next stop for the four Singapore sailors and team mate Andrew Tang (邓恩瀚), 12, will be Turkey where they will compete at the IODA Optimist World Championships from 14 to 25 July 2008.
