The first of Team Singapore’s 25 athletes left for the Olympic Games yesterday morning.

The Republic’s six Olympic sailors and their coaches — (from left) Xu Yuanzhen (men’s 470), Koh Seng Leong (Laser Standard), Lo Man Yi (Laser Radial), Brett Beyer (national Laser coach), Terence Koh (men’s 470), Craig Ferris (national Olympic head coach), Toh Liying and Deborah Ong (both women’s 470), and Peter Logan (team manager) — are headed to Qingdao, where the sailing competition will be held.

The remaining 18 Singapore based athletes will depart in the coming days, with women’s shot
put thrower Zhang Guirong, who is based in Shenyang, making a short trip to Beijing to link up with the rest of the contingent. Singapore’s 25-strong athlete contingent is its second largest after that of the 1956 Melbourne Games.
