The Singapore 420 sailors fared well at the 2009 Kieler Woche (Kiel Week) event, the world’s largest sailing event, which wrapped up yesterday.

Justin Liu and Sherman Cheng (2006 Asian Games, 2007 SEA Games, 2007 Junior Europeans 420 Champions), Great Britain’s Phil Sparks & Ben Gratton (GBR National Champions) and Germany’s Julian (2006 Optimist World Champion) & Philipp Autenrieth fought hard to maintain their positions on the podium. Justin and Sherman were the runner ups in last year's Kieler Woche 29er event.

Justin and Sherman both sailed a very consistent regatta in a range of conditions to finish 3rd in the enormous 168 boat open fleet from 18 countries.

Griselda Khng & Cecilia Low performed well too, the pair finished in 17th position (out of 168 boats).

Aaron Pan & Peter Wong finished in overall 22nd place (out of 34 boats) in the Hobie 16 class.

"This is a good preperation event for the upcoming Youth Worlds in Brazil and the 420 sailors are showing fine form and comes on the back of Leonard Ong's 4th placing last week", said Head of High Performance Mark Robinson.

The sailors will depart for Brazil on 4 July to compete at the 2009 Volvo ISAF Youth World Sailing Championship.
