Following endorsement from the Singapore National Olympic Council and the Singapore Youth Sports Development Committee, SingaporeSailing is pleased to announce the sailing selection process for Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

The Singapore Sailing Federation (SingaporeSailing) and the National Sailing Centre will play host to 100 athletes born in 1994 and 1995 from up to 50 countries. They will be competing in 4 events (2 male, 2 female) during the YOG in August 2010.

As host nation, Singapore will gain automatic entry in one male and one female event. In accordance with the International Olympic Council (IOC) qualification process, the host nation is also eligible for places in the remaining two events under the Unused Quota Place system (UQP) if not all events are filled to their respective quota’s. The decision of UQP allocation rests solely with the IOC.

Sailing’s YOG selection process consists of 2 parts:

1. Host Nation places allocation
The choice of the two host nation places will come from a combination of the 2009-10 YOG Continental Qualifiers and the 2010 YOG World Qualifier for the respective classes (“events” in IOC terminology).

2. Individual athlete selection
The selection of individual athletes will primarily be through selection trials consisting of one local and one overseas trial for each class (“events” in IOC terminology). Trials will be conducted between January and April 2010.

To be eligible for selection each prospective athlete must submit a “Notice of Intent” prior to 7 January 2010.

The full YOG selection policy is available in hard copy only and may be collected from the National Sailing Centre reception.
