In November last year, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports honoured a special group of volunteers for their tireless efforts and contribution at the MCYS Volunteer Awards.
SingaporeSailing's President Mr Low Teo Ping was among those who were honoured. A retired banker, Teo Ping now spends his time at the helm SingaporeSailing and the Singapore Rugby Union. He also sits on the executive committee of the International Sailing Federation and was recently appointed Singapore's Chef de Mission for the 2010 Asian Games.
So what drives Teo Ping to these sports administration tasks instead of spending time at the golf course or sailing? He said in an interview with Salt Magazine in 2007, ""I see myself as being involved with a mission, using sports so that the people who go through it come out being better people and better citizens.
That’s all. It’s not about winning medals.”
