Sailor Darren Choy and swimmer Amanda Lim shared the spotlight at the Singapore Sports School Awards Night yesterday after winning the Outstanding Student of the Year Award in the male and female category respectively. Winning the school’s most prestigious accolade was a surprise for the duo, who are likely to compete in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in August.

“It’s my first and I really hope to do my part at the YOG this year,” said Darren, 16, who enjoyed a fruitful season last year with titles in the Byte CII World Championships, Asian Youth Games and National Byte Championship.

Added Amanda, 17, who won three gold medals at the 2009 SEA Games: “This award is a boost for me as I know that everyone, my family, friends and school, is supporting me. My target for the YOG is to try for a spot in the final, and I will do my best.”

Swimming golden girl Tao Li, Clement Lim (swimming) and alumni members Bernice Lim (bowling) and Mylene Ong (swimming) received the Outstanding Sports Achievement Award.
