Step 3: Invest in equipment
Wingfoiling is a niche sport in its early years. New equipment can be fairly expensive (S$3,000 and more), but luckily now it’s easier to find good used equipment from the growing community here. Sellers usually list their used equipment on Facebook, or Carousell.
You get what you pay for, so find out more before buying.
Beginners will benefit from everything on the bigger side: bigger board, bigger foil and bigger wing.

Frequently asked questions
Question: Is wingfoiling dangerous?
There is risk in wingfoiling, as in all sports.
You should be a competent swimmer. Protective equipment like helmets, flotation/impact vests, knee pads and leashes will help keep you safe.
Pay special attention to launching and coming back to shore when large waves are present. A tumble in the waves with foil and board can be hazardous to yourself and others.
Understand the risks, and stay safe in Singapore seas.
Question: Can I learn on my own?
Yes! Most can learn on their own, but experienced instructors can help fast-track your progress, especially in Singapore where wind is light and unpredictable.

Question: How difficult is it to learn wingfoil?
It's challenging - wingfoiling requires balance, some physical strength, and lots of mental strength!
Depending on conditions, your ability and equipment, expect to go through 4 to more than 20 sessions of practice before you get competent with foiling. Those with board or foil sports experience can expect to progress quicker.
