Asian Games 2026: Sailing wins four medals
Published Tue 06 Oct 2026
26 September – 3 October 2026, Kaiyoh Yacht Harbour, Gamagori, Japan – Team Singapore sailors won four medals at the 2026 Asian Games: three silver and one bronze. Sailing was Team Singapore's top medal-winning sport at the Games, and its four medals made up 22% of Singapore's 18 medals across all sports.
Five athletes won the medals, all on their Asian Games debut:
- Jania Ang: Silver, Women's Dinghy (ILCA 6)
- Ian Goh: Silver, Boys' Dinghy (ILCA 4)
- Sean Kum and Nigel Tan: Silver, Boys' Skiff (29er)
- John Wong: Bronze, Boys' Windsurfing (iQFOiL)
John's bronze is Singapore's first Asian Games medal in windsurfing. He took up the sport only four years ago.
The medals came from both an Olympic event and the Olympic pathway. Jania's silver came in the Women's Dinghy (ILCA 6), an Olympic event. The other three medals came in Olympic pathway events. The Boys' Dinghy (ILCA 4) and Boys' Skiff (29er) feed into the ILCA 6, ILCA 7 and 49er Olympic events, and the Boys' Windsurfing (iQFOiL) is raced on the equipment used for Olympic windsurfing.
"I think these young medallists will inspire a crop of even younger sailors to come in and train harder and look forward to representing Singapore at the major games and other world championship events as well," said Stanley Chan, president of the Singapore Sailing Federation.
"Five sailors won medals across four events. That shows depth across our youth and senior programmes, and that our results don't depend on any single sailor or event," added Stanley.
