Over the weekend, past and present sailors from Tanjong Katong Girls' School came back to where it all began. 

The reunion was organised by our Athletes’ Commission Chair, Cheryl Teo, a TKGS alumna.

“Forming a boat chain out in the sea between races… chatting about anything under the sun (literally!)—that’s when I fell in love with sailing and made more friends,” said Cheryl. 

The TKGS team environment is also something that alumna Sophia Rose Meyers cherished over the years. She believed that the sport had equipped her with many soft skills.

“Definitely, there’s a lot of discipline involved (in sailing), I think that’s carried on throughout my life,” said Sophia, who competed in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

For Keira Marie Carlyle, our 2023 Asian Games bronze medallist, the sport has taught and given her so much. 

From understanding the importance of taking initiative to being helpful in a team setting, she credits sailing for teaching her many values. 

“Sailing made me who I am today,” said Keira.

“Everything that I know also comes from sailing, that’s what I realised.”
